Minnesota History Center
Working as a 3D collections curatorial assistant for the Minnesota Historical Society involved working hands on with objects from the collection every day. The main role of the curatorial assistant was to engage in object based research to catalog new acquisitions into the permanent collection.
Blog Post
A blog post on MNHS.org about a recent acquisition to the collection and its significance.
For my post, I chose an object that had a great story behind it - punk boots from the 80’s. These were purchased in London in the 1980’s and worn around Minneapolis. As the History Center has only a few items that document the punk scene, they happily accepted these.
Curator Collaboration
I was given the opportunity to access a new offer to the collection. Doing the initial examination of objects and determining significance to the collection was a good practice. I was able to see the scope of the offer, what was accepted and why, the debate in the acquisitions committee, the process of obtaining title, and the cataloging of the accepted items.
